Crowdsourcing

Shorthand for the type of mass collaboration that modern information and communication technology has made possible. The basic idea of leveraging mass collaboration has been used in many projects. Facebook, for example, used crowdsourcing to develop the different language versions of its website. Local By Us is a website that provides crowd-sourced local news, events, opinions, and classifieds, and Ushahidi is a website created in the aftermath of the disputed 2007 presidential elections in Kenya which uses crowdsourcing to report and locate incidents of electoral violence.
